A child's need for attention drives behavior

A child's need for security can cause an escalation of negative behavior.

Analyzing your child's behavior puts you in a position of power and allows you to redirect their behavior by controlling your reactions in terms of giving attention.

Attention is defined as: talking, touch, eye contact. Children need it and will take it positively or negatively as long as you pay attention to them. That's why "punishment" doesn't work.

Consequences - What Are They and How to Use Them Effectively

We all know about consequences, so why aren't they working? How do I use consequences without making my kids feel like they are constantly being threatened in order to behave? Do I always have to be "breathing down" my childrens' necks as soon as they walk though the front door? Are consequences just a nice way to say "punish", what's the difference? At what age is giving consequences appropriate? How do you create an effective consequence?
